Penang, Malaysia Manufacturing Plant Holds First Ever Mobile Platelet Collection

[back to news]

The Haemonetics team in Malaysia held a one-day Mobile Blood Donation Drive in collaboration with the Penang General Hospital. Throughout the day, a total of 100 whole blood donations were collected from Haemonetics employees and local members of the community.

Additionally, we showcased three apheresis collections, which highlighted our MCS+ mobility and multicomponent collection capability to the Penang staff. This event gave employees the unique opportunity to see how the products that they assemble in the manufacturing plant benefit both donors and patients.

Penang Factory Tour and Workshop

In conjunction with the Mobile Blood Donation Drive, the Penang team provided a factory tour and workshop for doctors and nurses from blood centers and hospitals in Northern Malaysia (including Dr. Soo Peng Yen from Penang General Hospital, Dr. Sabariah Md Noor from Ipoh General Hospital, Dr. Sakinah Ahmad from Hospital Tuanku Fauziah and Dr Siti Nadiah from Hospital Sungai Petani). These medical professionals were welcomed by the entire Penang manufacturing team headed by Allan Ng and were given a tour of the Penang Manufacturing Plant as well as a demonstration workshop on our products.

The Haemonetics team presented the production, processing and sterilization of disposables in detail to the attendees and booths were setup to showcase the different steps involved in our manufacturing processes. The doctors were very impressed with the plant infrastructure and internal quality systems which imparted confidence in the products manufactured within our plants. We highlighted our lean manufacturing principals and processes which several of the doctors now plan to incorporate into their daily activities.

The workshop content consisted of:

  • Penang plant quality systems presentation by Poh Siew Gan
  • Introduction to Sanmina / Haemonetics device manufacturing presentation by Jared Tan
  • MCS+ UPP software with a focus on performance and donor comfort
  • New 17G sysloc needle launch with the introduction of Penang manufactured disposables presentation by Ian Wahyu Ananto

This major event took five months to plan and organize, and it would not have been successful without the great efforts of the cross-functional team who planned and executed the event. This team consisted of the entire Penang manufacturing team headed by Allan Ng, Corporate, Global Marketing, Global Communications, Regional Marketing, Compliance, Finance and the local Haemonetics team.

Congratulations to the Haemonetics Penang Team and the Asia Pacific commercial team for working together on this very successful event! We also congratulate the Penang employees on the meaningful difference that they have made in their community, and we thank them for helping to improve the Haemonetics reputation as a socially responsible organization.
