Study at a glance

  • 135 donors observational study comparing collection efficiency and performance indices of Universal Platelet Protocol (UPP®) versus the previous Concentrated Single Donor Platelet protocol (CSDP) on MCS®
  • Significantly higher collection efficiency for UPP (58%) vs CSDP (47% )
  • More platelets in less time for UPP with collection rate (6.5×109 platelets/min) vs CSDP (5.0×109 platelets/min). Donors found apheresis with UPP of equal duration or faster, of similar or greater comfort and with an equal number or fewer side effects, compared with the CSDP protocol
