Blood collection centers throughout the world are facing difficult times as they strive to ensure the safety of the blood supply in the face of chronic shortages and a constantly shrinking donor base. Clearly, blood centers look for ways to become more self-sufficient, to manage existing donor pools, and to attract new donors. To help them accomplish these goals, Haemonetics offers the MCS 8150 mobile collection system for double red cell collection ("2RBC").
Solutions That Meet Our Customers' Needs
- Enables the donor to give twice as much blood during one visit
- Saves the collection agency the expense of performing two donor histories and two sets of tests
- Allows the agency to improve its monitoring of existing inventory
- Facilitates better planning for the future by matching donor potential with anticipated needs. For example, if type O red cells are in short supply and a type O donor is available, the center can collect two units of type O cells. Also, center recruiters can telephone previously identified type O donors to request that they come to the center to help meet the need.
- Filters both units of red cells with one leukoreduction filter
- Requires no sterile weld process
- Is lightweight and easily transportable to collection sites at schools and universities, places of work, worship, or other community locations
For simultaneous collection of red cells and plasma (RBC-P), Haemonetics also offers a protocol that collects one unit of red cells and 400 to 550 ml of plasma from one donor during a single collection procedure
